About

Food is a fundamental part of our culture, revealing secrets about our heritage, histories, customs, politics and economies. Born and raised in Hong Kong, food naturally became a big part of my life. As a result, I’m always hungry. And curious. I’m inspired by my mother’s gourmet spreads, her playfulness with ingredients and her magic in the kitchen, my father’s vivid stories of the steaming hot parathas of his Old Delhi childhood, and the orchestra of a Chinese restaurant with its clanging crockery and loud waitresses serving up tasty little baskets of dimsum on a Sunday afternoon. This blog is a quest to satisfy my appetite and equally my thirst for knowledge. An adventure to tease and test my palate, tickle my tastebuds, and uncover the symbolism, desire, creativity, tradition and humble origins of why we eat what we do. Eat, drink and enjoy!

My banoffee pie: A crunchy ginger-cinnamon crust, drizzled with warm blonde toffee, topped with fine slices of soft banana folded in layers of whipped cream, sprinkled generously with rich dark chocolate slivers.
